Reason versus Emotions

Topic 2 – Reason versus Emotions, Textbook p.236

A husband and his wife who were my neighbors were fighting almost daily. The husband was a taxi driver while the wife was a homemaker. The reason for their frequent fights was that the husband always arrived home late. This angered his wife TK. TK always argued that her husband PK had acquired himself a mistress and that was the supposed reason for his late arrivals.

The family had so many bills to settle and therefore had to take some late night jobs to make ends meet as they commonly say. Some of PK clients were female and TK’s informer did not hesitate to tell her so. This is what aggravated her anger. PK was one of the most faithful men in our neighborhood. The only places you could find him were his job and his house. His wife could hear none of this no matter how much PK tried to convince her that the only reason he stayed out late was work. He tried to show his wife that more and better paying customers were only available at late night hours, but this landed on deaf ears.

TK’s emotions seemed to get the best of her. She was not able to apply reason. Her mind was hell bent that PK had a mistress that made him stay out late. She never at any one time considered the many financial challenges they were facing as a family. PK tried to meet all of his financial obligations without complaining.
